![]() ![]() The ear cups are on the Cloud Revolver sport plush cushions and a pleather covering that feel divine for long gaming sessions. While that might be enough to turn off fans of the comparatively subtle Cloud and Cloud II, it's clear that under the proverbial hood, Kingston's kept its focus where it matters – on great sound and comfort. The Cloud Revolver is quite a bit more ostentatious than its predecessors, opting for a suspension-style headband and stark red accents and the HyperX logo on either side. And the differing design philosophy shows. Unlike those sets which were designed by a third party and then modified by Kingston, the Cloud Revolver was developed entirely in-house. The Kingston HyperX Cloud Revolver is an update/follow-up to two of the most decorated gaming headsets of all-time: the HyperX Cloud and Cloud II. So if you've got a few systems you like to use, the headset gets that much more expensive. Unfortunately, the full TR kit runs quite a bit, and as Ryan McCaffrey noted in his full review in January, you can't use the same mixamp with every console. Having the choice between the two is a pretty novel idea, and to Astro's credit, the result is pretty great. But it also means that you'll hear noises in the background – like annoying roommates or other tournament competitors, if you're into that kind of thing. It reduces strain on your ears and lets the sound breathe a bit more. ![]() If you're playing solo and want the best quality, an open back design is really the way to go. The advantages here can be pretty dramatic. You can switch from an open back set to a closed one, change out the ear pads and more. The big change with this edition over the last line is that the construction is somewhat modular. The TR stands for "Tournament Ready" and clearly shows Astro's competitive gaming focus. The TR is their updated edition of the set, complete with a rebuilt mixamp, Astro's proprietary headphone amplifier and controller. They're the officially sponsored set of Major League Gaming, and have been around since 2008. There's far, far better stuff out there. The Astro A40s are somewhat legendary. For example I just can't imagine someone rowing a boat in God of War whilst listening to a stereotypical brat, all at a sub 30 framerate before fighting the samey enemies again, again & again & saying "wow, bestest game on ps4!". These lists are always biased junk, but there's certain criteria's (namely technical) which should determine better contenders emerge on top. Arkham Knight probably also deserves a positive mention (fairly solid on the ps4 & great fun), so does the Crash Bandicoot remake trilogy.Īs for Red Dead 2 & God of War, they're two of the most technically imperfect (stutter stutter stutter) overrated boring experiences I've endured this gen. I'd be far more inclined to put Resident Evil 7 up there instead because it does run really well on the 2013 machine (aka the console which the vast majority of ps4 owners play their games on). I'd be reticent to put Resident Evil 2 Remake on the list because it also runs poorly on the base console (fluctuating framerate kills the immersion). Witcher 3 shouldn't be there by virtue of the fact it runs horribly on base ps4 (sub 30 fps stutter fest). ![]()
